If you are on the board of a breed club you may be familiar with what it takes to put on a successful club show. You are also aware of the extensive amount of work involved in organizing such a dog show.
Life without dog show software
Start out by announcing the date and location of the show and advertising the breeds that are eligible to enter. In some cases, you may decide to limit the entries to certain breeds or classes, and of course you may have different rates for early and late entries and perhaps even a limit on the number of dogs that may be entered.
You then have to follow the progress of the entries. At times, dog owners have to be given a gentle reminder about the closing date. At others, you may have to close entries when reaching the pre-determined date.
The next step is to go over the entered dogs, to ensure they are entered in the appropriate class and their owners have provided the required details: name, stud book number, date of birth, gender, owner, breeder, microchip number and so on. If you discover problems you have to contact the owner and set things straight.
After that comes the stage where you have to arrange the breeds and classes. If you have more than one breed, you have to consider various requests from club members – those who ask to be judged earlier or later, those who have more than one breed and need to be scheduled properly. You should publish the schedule so members know when to arrive without missing their turn in the ring.
The following step is to create a catalog, report for the vet inspection (if necessary), ring steward’s report and result report as well as the critiques for all the dogs.
If working on paper, you have to prepare all the critiques in advance.
On the day of the show, people with dogs have to receive their number, pass the vet and be prepared to enter the ring on time.
The judge dictates his critiques and then has to sign each and every one of them, and sometimes even additional forms required by the breed club or the kennel club. The owners have to receive their dogs’ critiques. Judging results are written on the appropriate pages.
When the show is over, you usually have to compose a report for the kennel club informing it of the various titles and scores the dogs received. You don’t want to miss anything because that would have a negative effect on the coming shows and people will be disappointed, particularly those who have lost a title due to negligence or omission.
So how do you make all this become easy? Using a dog show software
By using Dogg.Dog - Dog show software. It will do all the above, including receive entry fees, information about the dogs, arrange classes and breeds in the specified order, place the judge’s signature on the critiques and then send them to the owners by e-mail the moment they have finished their part in the show. It will record titles and scores and make a list for the final competition and finally will compose the report required by the kennel club.
